Anaís —Anaís Martínez Vega, born on 22 June 1984 in Santo Domingo— is a Dominican-American singer of ballads and Latin pop who won the second season of the television talent show Objetivo Fama.

From Santo Domingo to the Bronx

She was born in Santo Domingo and lived there until the age of nine, when she moved with her father to the Bronx, in New York. In 2005 she won the second season of Objetivo Fama, the singing competition broadcast by Univision in Puerto Rico and the United States. At the end of that year she recorded «Arriba, abajo», a song for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, with Pablo Montero, Mariana Seoane and Ana Bárbara.

«Así soy yo»

Her debut album, «Así soy yo», came out on 18 April 2006 on Univision, with the singles «Atrapada», «Lo que son las cosas», «Estoy con él y pienso en ti» and «Estar contigo». «Lo que son las cosas», a song first recorded by Ednita Nazario, reached number one on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs, and «Estoy con él y pienso en ti» entered its top ten. The album was nominated for the 2006 Latin Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Album, which went to Shakira, and she began her «Así soy yo» tour in Puerto Rico on 16 September 2006.

«Con todo mi corazón»

Her second album, «Con todo mi corazón», was released on 3 April 2007 in the United States, with the singles «Tu amor no es garantía», «Sólo mío» and «Como tu mujer», and a deluxe edition followed on 16 October. In March 2007 she received the Premio Casandra as Outstanding Artist Abroad and took part in the ceremony’s musical opening.

Later work

She appeared in the Dominican film «La soga» (2009) and in 2017 joined the cast of the eighth season of the reality series «Love & Hip Hop: New York».

Legacy

In 2016 the Puerto Rican newspaper Primera Hora, reviewing the contestants of Objetivo Fama, recalled her as the winner of its second edition who went on to record two albums.
