Chelion, born José Luis Green in La Romana on 9 August 1989, is a Dominican bachata singer. He is also a guitarist, an arranger and a composer, which in bachata means he can build a record on his own rather than wait to be handed one.

Early years and formation

He leaned towards music young and came up in La Romana, a city whose bachata line runs from Mártires de León through Monchy and out to the world. Growing up there means learning the guitar before anything else: bachata is a guitar music before it is a voice, and the requinto figures are the part nobody can fake.

The recordings

Atrapados and En Medio de la Noche are the two that carried furthest, both released with videos. Enamorado de Ti and Llega Diciembre round out the singles.

He works the eastern circuit — Casa de Puerto Rico in La Romana, Club Salvaleón in Higüey — which is where a bachatero from that side of the country builds an audience before anyone in the capital notices.
