King Caballero, born on 28 July 1983, is a Dominican urban producer and singer. He works across hip hop, reggaetón and merengue electrónico.

De Repente

His recorded catalogue under his own name comes down to one release: the EP De Repente, from 2014. He is registered as an author in the international rights system, which means the writing went on beyond what came out with his name on the sleeve.

Merengue electrónico is the least respectable of the three genres he works in and the most Dominican — merengue put through a machine, made for a dance floor rather than an orchestra, and largely ignored by the people who write about Dominican music.

He has since moved into gaming, and both his channel and his page now describe him as a maker of gaming videos rather than as a musician.

That is a common enough second act for producers of his generation. The skills carry — recording, editing, delivering something on a schedule to an audience that found you online — and the audience is easier to reach than the one that buys records.
