Lorens Salcedo is a Dominican worship singer, songwriter and vocal coach whose career runs along two tracks that rarely meet in the same person: a recording and concert ministry in contemporary Spanish-language worship, and a teaching practice that has trained thousands of singers through Lorens Music Academy, the largest vocal academy in the Dominican Republic. She has sung in church since the age of eight.

Training

Salcedo's formation is unusually formal for a worship artist. She studied music at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo and opera at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música, working under the Dominican soprano Marianela Sánchez, whom she has publicly credited as her teacher and mentor. That conservatory grounding — breath, placement, classical repertoire — sits underneath a body of work aimed at congregations rather than concert halls, and it is the foundation of the pedagogy she later built a school around.

Her reading shaped her writing as much as her training did. At twelve she first encountered the story of Jan Hus, the Bohemian reformer burned at the stake for refusing to recant, and the account stayed with her for decades before surfacing in her best-known song.

Recording career

Mi Alma Adorará, released on January 26, 2022, took the Hus story as its subject. Salcedo co-wrote it with Ángelo Frilop, director of the group Barak, who also arranged the music; Sky Music NY handled executive production. The single drew nominations and awards within Latin Christian music, including recognition at El Galardón, and became the calling card of her recording ministry.

In November 2023 she recorded Mi Dios es el Primero at the United Palace Theatre in New York during a worship festival, co-writing the song with the Venezuelan worship band Montesanto — Yao D'Lima, Sinai Urdaneta, Richeld Vilchez and Douglas D'Lima, the last of whom produced and arranged it. Built on the first commandment of Exodus 20, the track was released in March 2024. She has also issued the single RÍO, which frames worship as an ongoing relationship rather than a momentary experience.

Lorens Music Academy

Salcedo founded Lorens Music Academy, which has grown into the largest singing academy in the Dominican Republic and reaches students across Latin America and the United States through online instruction. The school occupies a distinctive position in Dominican music: technical vocal training has historically been available mainly through the conservatory system or not at all, and an academy built by a working worship artist offers a route into serious technique for singers whose repertoire is congregational rather than classical.

The teaching is not separate from the ministry. Salcedo has described both as the same vocation — using preparation to help other singers find the full range of what their voices can do.

Nuevas Fuerzas

Nuevas Fuerzas, her most recent release, takes its name from the biblical promise that those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. She opened the Nuevas Fuerzas Tour on August 15, 2026 at the Sala Manuel Rueda in Santo Domingo, in a production by Sky Music Productions that also paid tribute to Marianela Sánchez, the soprano who trained her. Salcedo framed the concert as a new stage in both her artistic and ministerial work.

Craft and calling

Salcedo represents a strand of Dominican Christian music in which craft is treated as inseparable from calling. Her recordings place her within the transnational Spanish-language worship circuit that runs between Santo Domingo, New York and the wider Hispanic church; her academy has quietly made her one of the most consequential vocal teachers in the country, shaping singers whose names will appear on records she has nothing else to do with. Both halves weigh the same: what she recorded and what she taught.
