Makemcie is a Dominican rapper, born on 8 September 1992. He came up in Monción, in Santiago Rodríguez province, and he worked under the fuller billing Makemcie 4Letras.

Rap in the north-west

His scene was the north-west, a long way from the studios of Santo Domingo. He was interviewed on 89.3 FM in Monción and played the patronales de San Antonio there in 2013, on bills shared with other artists from the region.

That circuit — small-town radio, the patron saint festival, a crew name that doubles as a tag — is how Dominican rap actually reproduces itself outside the capital, and it almost never appears in writing about the music.

The turn

He has since moved into digital marketing, describing himself now as a strategist who helps businesses and personal brands grow through content, automation and artificial intelligence. The audience he built as a rapper follows him for that.

The move is not as strange as it sounds. Rappers who came up independent learned distribution, self-promotion and audience-building before anyone called it marketing, and a number of them have converted the same skills into a second trade.
