Omar Bienn is a Dominican bachata singer and songwriter, marketed as «la voz angelical», born on Isla Saona and raised in Puerto Rico and New York. He began in church choirs and in a salsa group at university, moved to bachata at the suggestion of the label «EP Discomanía», and has released singles including «Brujería», «A Toda Prisa», «Sabor Amargo» and «Después de Ti».

Isla Saona, Puerto Rico and New York

By his own account he was born on Isla Saona, a small island near La Romana, in the east of the country, and has sung since childhood; press material describes him singing in his church choir. His family moved to Puerto Rico when he was eleven. There he joined a group formed at the Universidad de Hato Rey, «La Red», that played salsa. He later moved to New York, where he met the label «EP Discomanía».

From salsa to bachata

He says he liked salsa and that a member of the label's promotion team, hearing his melodic voice, suggested he try bachata; it went better, and he has stayed with the genre. «EP Discomanía», the New York and Santo Domingo label and distributor founded by Elvin Jiménez in 1992, whose roster included Zacarías Ferreira, Kiko Rodríguez and Aníbal Bravo, sent him to Santo Domingo to record. Label material lists his first recordings as «La Novela», «Te Dejaré de Amar», «Vuelve» and «Vamos»; «Vamos», which he wrote, was arranged by Camilo Bencosme and released in 2021.

Releases

«Brujería», a bachata version of the song by the Puerto Rican composer Tite Curet Alonso, was released on 18 June 2021. It was followed by «A Toda Prisa» (2022), «Sabor Amargo» (2023), which he wrote himself, and «Me Safe» (2024). He has also recorded «Me Gustas» with J.Q and a version of the bolero «Sabor a Mí».

Live work

In September 2026 he opened two concerts for Dalvin la Melodía at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in San Juan, on the 11th and 13th, and then did a media tour in the Dominican Republic to promote the new single «Después de Ti», appearing on «Buena Noche». He lives in New York.
